OUR INSPIRATION
PADMA SHREE SITARA DEVI

1920-2014

Sitara Devi is the most renowned exponent of kathak, gaining international favour, performing at several prestigious venues including Royal Albert Hall, London (1967) and at the Carnegie Hall, New York (1976)
Starting her career at age 10, she has received a number of awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1969), Padma Shree (1973), Kalidas Samman (1995) and the Nritya Nipuna.

DANSEUSE JAYANTI MALA

Jayanti Mala is the daughter of Smt. Sitara Devi and niece of Acharya Chowbey Maharaj. She represents the 10th generation of the Banaras Gharana. She has received many awards including  Urvashi award, Sangeet devi,the Kathak queen award ,Bharat Nirman award etc.

EESHTA BHATT

Eeshta Bhatt is a kathak dancer from Mumbai, India,  who has been training for 13 years under Guru Jayanti Mala. Enamoured by swirling skirts and fast spins as a young girl, she was deeply disappointed to see the gradual disappearance of Kathak from mainstream dances. She started KathakWorld to help reignite interest in Kathak, and give people a chance to fall in love with the dance just as she has.

KALA KRITI KENDRA

Kala Kriti Kendra is a dance studio, based in Andheri, Mumbai. It was started by Sr. Sitara Devi, and is now run by her daughter Jayanti Mala.
